Cats Fall on the Road at First-Place Montana

2/15/2013 6:33:00 AM | Women's Basketball

The Weber State women's basketball team fell on the road the Big Sky number-one Montana, 90-43.

The Wildcats shot a season low 24.1 percent from the field. Weber State was led by Brittney Newcomb who scored ten points in the game, but the scoring was pretty well balanced.

Carlee Lough added seven points for the Cats while Regina Okoye had six points and four other Wildcats scored four points each.

Montana was led by Kenzie De Boer who poured in 19 points in the win. Two other players tallied double-digit point totals for the Grizzlies. Katie Baker had 15 points and Jordan Sullivan added 12.

The Wildcats pulled down 31 rebounds, but gave up 57. The loss was the second-largest conference loss in program history. It also didn't help that the Grizzlies shot 45.2 percent.

Contrasted with the Wildcats' poor shooting percentage, the game got out of hand fairly quickly.

Montana got out to a 20-4 lead while making eight of its first nine shots in the first eight minutes of the game.

Freshman center Jalen Carpenter led the team in rebounds with five, while Baker led the Grizzlies and the game with ten boards.

Montana capitalized on 15 Weber State turnovers with 19 points off of them, meanwhile the Wildcats only scored six points off the Grizzlies' 12 turnovers.

Helped by 18 offensive rebounds, the Grizzlies had 19 second-chance points to the Wildcats' three.

The Cats are back in action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Montana State.
