The Weber State women's basketball team fell just short of its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, losing at Montana State, 69-65.
The Wildcats had one of their best offensive team efforts of the season. Three Wildcats were in double digits against the Bobcats. Freshman forward Regina Okoye led the way with 16 points, a career high.
Meanwhile Kia Rhodes added a season-high 12 points and Des Ramos recorded 11 points.
The Wildcats trailed by 18 points with 7:41 left to go in the game before putting together a furious comeback.
With seven minutes left, the Wildcats stepped up their defense holding Montana State to only seven points in the last seven minutes. In that same span, Weber State scored 21 points.
The Wildcats had a couple of chances to tie the game late, but couldn't cash in, ultimately falling by the four-point margin.
Weber State shot a season-high 46.3 percent from the field while the Bobcats shot 45.5 percent. Weber State was outrebounded, however, 40-29.
Montana State also held a big advantage in the paint where the Bobcats outscored Weber State, 42-30.
Montana State's Rachel Semansky led all scorers with 28 points. Semansky also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Freshman forward Kalie Matthews led the Wildcats with seven rebounds of her own.
Both teams had trouble taking care of the ball. Weber State turned it over 22 times while the Bobcats turned it over 23 times.
Both teams also struggled from three-point range. Each team went 1-10 from beyond the arc.
This was the third game in a four-game road trip for the Wildcats. They will travel to Cedar City, Utah, for a matchup with Southern Utah on Thursday at 7 p.m. They will then return home on Thursday, February 28 to take on Sacramento State.
