USAF, CO – The Weber State University women's basketball team defeated Air Force 71-53 Thursday night giving the Wildcats a 3-0 record on the season. The last time Weber State had a 3-0 start was during the 2006-07 season
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead. Even though Air Force put up a good fight they couldn't prevail as they fell behind 38-21 at the end of the first half and couldn't regain their footing. The Wildcats took off during the second half and had a 20 point lead at one point in the second half.
After three games Weber State still has not been behind, and has led for all but one minute, 50 seconds.
“They didn't give up, they kept battling, and they didn't falter,” Head Coach Bethann Ord said. “It was a good win on the road and I'm really proud of the girls.”
Juniors Jalen Carpenter and Regina Okoye earned double-doubles on the night. Okoye put up her second double-double of the season with a season high of 21 points and 12 rebounds while Carpenter had 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Weber State had a total of 58 rebounds on the night compared to Air Force's 24. The Wildcats had eight steals to the Falcons five. Weber State shot 32 percent from the field, 45 percent from the three and 80 percent from the free throw line.
"The girls are in good spirits right now but they know we have a long road ahead," Ord said. "They understand that it's all about little progression and we've been doing that every game."
The Wildcats will take on Utah Valley Saturday Nov. 22 at 4:00 p.m. in Orem at the UCCU Center. Weber State will then turnaround and host Cal State Fullerton Monday, Nov 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
