OREM, Utah – The Weber State University women's basketball team lost their first game of the season on the road against Utah Valley with a final score of 61-40 Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats didn't score until five minutes into the first half when Brittney Dunbar hit an outside jumper for the Wildcats'. Weber State struggled the rest of the first half only shooting 20 percent with a 28-15 score at half time.

The second half proved to be even tougher as the Wolverines didn't back down and increased their lead by 25 points. The Wildcats battled but in the end were not victorious as Utah Valley outscored Weber State 25-33 in the second half.

“We outrebounded them which was a positive but we didn't convert those rebounds,” Head Coach Bethann Ord said. “There was just too many missed opportunities offensively and the offensive energy quickly deflated.”

Junior Regina Okoye had the high for the Wildcats with 11 points.  Dunbar had a career high of five points and Zakiyyah Shahid-Martin had a career high of 12 rebounds.

Weber State had a total of 41 rebounds on the night compared to Utah Valley's 38. Weber State shot 25 percent from the field, 25 percent from the three and 50 percent from the free throw line.

“The girls are hungry,” Ord said. “We got one day to prepare and we are excited to get back and defend our home court.”

The Wildcats will host Cal State Fullerton Monday Nov. 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dee Events center before heading to the New Mexico State tournament where they will take on New Mexico State and Eastern Michigan.
