Weber State loses close one to CS Fullerton 70-68

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State University women's basketball team had three Wildcats score in double digits, but it wasn't enough as Cal State Fullerton defeated WSU 70-68 in the last 18 seconds of the game Monday night.
The Wildcats quickly scored the first points of the game and carried a 42-30 lead into half time.Late in the second half the Titans went on a run and brought the score within two points. For the last three minutes of the game the score was back and forth until Fullerton's Chante Miles scored an easy layup to take a 70-68 lead over the Wildcats with 18 seconds left, solidifying the Titan victory.
“I'm so proud of my team,” said Weber State head coach Bethann Ord. “They battled to the end. They didn't falter, they didn't put their heads down. I know we had a pretty good lead, but with having a couple of players out, the other ones said to pick it up, and they battled.”
Miles put up 35 points against the Wildcats. She made six three pointers and 11-12 from the free throw line. She also had the game high assists with six. All but eight of the Titans points were from beyond the arc or the free throw line.
Junior Jalen Carpenter had the high for the Wildcats with 17 points. Junior Regina Okoye had 15 points and Freshman Kailie Quinn had 14 points with four, three-pointers. Freshman Jocelyn Adams stepped up for the Wildcats with the game high of eight rebounds. Okoye also contributed seven rebounds and four steals.
The Wildcats out rebounded the Titans 34-33. Weber State only had 17 turnovers on the night compared to Fullerton's 22. Weber State shot 46 percent from the field, 30 percent from beyond the arc and 75 percent from the free-throw line.
The Wildcats, now 3-2, head to the New Mexico State Tournament where they will take on New Mexico State and Eastern Washington before going hosting San Diego on Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.
