PROVO, Utah – After a strong start Weber State University's women's basketball team fell  64-53 to Brigham Young University, Tuesday night.

Weber State started out strong and stuck with the Cougars for most of the first half. With 3:38 remaining in the first half BYU took a 25-16 lead over the Wildcats and maintained that lead going into half time. WSU kept the score within ten for the majority of the second half and BYU pulled ahead by 11 to end the 64-53.

“The girls took it upon themselves to be the defensive aggressors tonight,” Weber State head coach Bethann Ord said. “We just had a couple mental breakdowns defensively that BYU took advantage of.”

Freshman Jocelyn Adams earned her first double double on the season and career high with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Regina Okoye added 11 points for the Wildcats. Jalen Carpenter had 11 rebounds and Brittney Dunbar had four assists.

BYU's Morgan Bailey had 28 points against the Wildcats making 10-17 from the field and 8-13 from the free throw line. Lexi Eaton had 25 points for the Cougars and had the most rebounds with nine.

“Bailey is a beast in a good way,” Ord said. “She is a solid post player. She is a work horse and she gets that ball and she can finish.”

Weber State shot 32 percent from the field, 11 percent from the three and 46 percent from the free throw line. The Wildcats out rebounded BYU 48-39. Weber State had 18 rebounds compared to BYU's 21.

“We're worked as hard as we could every single play,” Adams said. “It didn't matter how far we were behind we weren't going to give up.”

WSU will now have four straight home games. First, the Wildcats are set to host Denver on Dec. 15 at noon for Field Trip Day and then nationally-ranked Oklahoma State on Dec. 18. The Wildcats step into conference play on Jan. 1 against Eastern Washington.
