OGDEN, Utah--The Weber State women's basketball team fell just short of its third straight win on Saturday afternoon, falling to Montana State, 75-71, at the Dee Events Center.

The Wildcats trailed the Bobcats, 67-58, with 3:33 left in the game when head coach Bethann Ord called a timeout to slow down the Bobcat run. Whatever Ord said, it worked. The Wildcats went on an 8-0 run out of the timeout to pull to within one point.

However, Montana State then went on a quick 6-1 run to pull away for good.

Weber State got another strong performance out of sophomore forward Kalie Matthews, who had 13 points and eight rebounds in the game. She was tied with Brianna Averette for the team lead in points for the game.

Matthews' eight rebounds was also tied for the team lead in the game. Both Zakiyyah Shahid-Martin and Jalen Carpenter also had eight boards.

Carpenter added 12 points while senior forward Amanda Hughes scored 10.

The Wildcats shot 39.1 percent from the floor in the game while Montana State shot 42.2 percent.

Montana State outrebounded the Wildcats, 43-34, but the Wildcats took better advantage of second-chances created by offensive rebounds. Weber State had 23 second-chance points to Montana State's 11.

The game was largely played in the paint, where the two teams combined for 74 points. The Bobcats outscored the Wildcats, 38-36, down low.

Both teams struggled to take care of the ball. Weber State turned it over 21 times, but the Bobcats turned it over 23 times.

The Wildcats will now hit the road for the first time in a couple of weeks, heading to Sacramento State on Thursday night for an 8 p.m. tip time.
