Weber State men's basketball assistant coach and former Big Sky MVP Kellen McCoy has left WSU to become the head boys basketball coach at Mount St. Mary's High School in Oklahoma City.
The 2013-14 season marked McCoy's first year as an assistant coach with the Wildcats. He helped lead Weber State to a Big Sky title, Big Sky Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. McCoy assisted in all areas of the Wildcat program including recruiting, scouting and player development.
McCoy played two seasons for the Wildcats from 2007-09 under WSU head coach Randy Rahe. As a senior in 2008-09 the Norman, Okla., native was named Big Sky MVP after leading the Wildcats to the conference title. In two seasons at Weber State, he played in 61 games and averaged 11.5 points and 2.3 assists per game. He was recently named to the Weber State 50th Anniversary Team.
“We hate see Kellen go but this is a good career opportunity for him and gets him closer to his family,” Rahe said. “Kellen did a great job for us and we appreciate all his hard work and dedication to our program. He will always be a part of the Weber State family and we wish him nothing but the best in the future.”
Prior to coaching with the Wildcats, McCoy was a graduate assistant coach under Lon Kruger at the University of Oklahoma and spent one season at Emporia State, a Division II school in Kansas. He also played two seasons of professional basketball in Sweden.
