For the sixth straight season Weber State saw an increase in fan attendance at Wildcat men's basketball games. The WSU men's basketball program ranked 68th in the nation in attendance during the 2013-14 season, according to attendance figures released this week by the NCAA. It marked the fourth straight year Weber State has ranked in the top 100 in the nation after ranking 78th in the 2012-13 season.
During a season that saw the Wildcats win the Big Sky title and Big Sky Tournament title and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament, Weber State finished the season averaging 6,834 fans per game. It marked the highest WSU attendance average in 18 years, since the 1995-96 season. A total of 109,340 fans attended Wildcat games in 16 games during the season.
It also marked the sixth straight season in which Weber State led the Big Sky Conference in attendance. WSU averaged over 3,000 fans more than the next closest school. The Big Sky Conference average for all 11 schools was 2,211 fans per game. The 'Cats have now lead the Big Sky in attendance in 11 of the last 13 seasons. WSU averaged 7,206 fans per game in the 10 regular season home Big Sky games, the best total since 1996.
Weber State had the 13th highest attendance average among schools in the western United States. The Wildcats also finished with a higher attendance average than six Pac-12 schools, seven Mountain West schools and nine West Coast schools. The national attendance average for all Division I schools last season was 4,817 fans per game.
In eight years under head coach Randy Rahe, Weber State has posted a 106-15 record at the Dee Events Center. Rahe is 63-5 at home in Big Sky regular season games and this season the Wildcats set a new Big Sky record by winning 27-straight conference regular season home games.
“Our fan support at Weber State is tremendous and it really makes a difference in our program” Rahe said. “This past season the fan support was a big part of our winning the Big Sky title and conference tournament. The Dee Events Center is a terrific college basketball atmosphere and we have a great home court advantage because of the support of all of our fans.”
