USAFA, Colo. – The Wildcats came up short twice on Saturday, dropping their final two matches of the Air Force Invitational.
The Weber State University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Marist(25-23, 25-14, 20-25) to open the day's action, and then dropped four-set heart-breaker to Air Force (21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18) to wrap up the two-day, three-match tournament.
The Wildcats fell to 2-5 with the losses.
Against The Red Fox, sophomore outside hitter Ciera Borho led the Wildcats with eight kills and senior outside hitter Audrey Biggs added seven, but Weber State managed just 32 kills in the match.
Against the Falcons, Biggs went on a tear with 29 kills and 11 digs while Borho added 11 kills. Also, freshman Amanda Varley eclipsed double-digits for the first time in her career, with 10 kills.
Redshirt freshman setter Taylor Christensen recorded 52 assists, 7 digs and 5 kills. Senior libero McKay Tarbox recorded a season-high 16 digs and 7 assists.
“Air Force is a really good team and they had some players that really dominated the play this weekend,” WSU head coach Tom Peterson said. “But we were able to stop them and we did a lot of encouraging things. When we were able to move the ball well they had a tough time stopping us. But once again we learned that we need to play a whole match if we are going to beat the better teams.”
Weber State will be back in action on next weekend when they travel to Wyoming to take part in the UniWyo Wyoming Invitational. There first match will be against Furman on Friday, September 12th.
