Weber State defeats SUU 60-39

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University's women's basketball team battled to a 60-39 victory over Southern Utah University Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 10-0 lead. The Thunderbirds got their first bucket with 13:34 on the clock. The Wildcats increased their lead by 19 going into half time. Weber State continued to charge in the second half and led by as many as 25 at one point. SUU cut the lead down to 13 but couldn't maintain their momentum and the Wildcats claimed a 60-39 victory.
“The girls came out ready to play tonight,” Head Coach Bethann Ord said. “They had a lot of energy and they focused and executed. It was a great team effort. I'm really proud of the girls, every single one of them stepped up tonight.”
Senior Carlee Lough stepped up big for the Wildcats. Lough had a career high of 19 points, including four buckets from beyond the arc. Freshman Jocelyn Adams pulled down 10 rebounds and had seven points. Junior Regina Okoye had 14 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
“Lough has been terrific at being a leader on the court,” Ord said. “She's worked hard in practice and she's taking this opportunity and running with it. She's a senior and really wants to end her time here on a high note and I think she's been doing a great job. I'm really proud of her.”
Weber State shot 30.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three and 70.4 percent from the free throw line. Weber State pulled down 45 rebounds to SUU's 38. The T-Birds had 20 turnovers to the Wildcats 15. SUU shot 31.3 percent from the field, 25 percent from the three and 55.6 percent from free throw line.
The Wildcats are now 2-4 in Big Sky Conference and 7-10 overall on the season. Weber State heads back on the road to Portland on Thursday Jan. 22 and Sacramento State Saturday, Jan 24 to continue Big Sky Conference play.
