Weber State University's women's basketball team has won three Big Sky Conference games in a row for the first time since 2007-08 by taking down Portland State University 60-51 Thursday night in Portland.

“Any time we go on the road and get a win I'm going to be happy,” Head Coach Bethann Ord said. “It was a scrappy game but a win is a win.”

After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead the Wildcats struggled to keep up. The Vikings went on a 9-2 run increasing their lead to 10 with just under 10 minutes left in the first. The Wildcats still trailed 30-20 with 4:26 on the clock. Weber State went on a 9-1 run bringing the score within two going into halftime.

Weber State took the lead early in the second half and Portland State went on a three minute scoring drought. The score was tied with 6:27 on the clock before Weber State went on to take the win.

“The first half we were letting our defense dictate how we were playing,” Ord said. “We weren't knocking down the shots we normally make but we stepped it up in the second half and fixed some of those little things.”

Junior Jalen Carpenter led the Wildcats with 14 points on the night and eight rebounds. Senior Brianna Averette contributed 11 points. Freshmen Jocelyn Adams and Cece Wooten each pulled down five rebounds for the Wildcats. Regina Okoye had five steals.

Weber State shot 40.4 percent from the field, 25 percent from the three and 61.5 percent from the free throw line. Weber State pulled down 35 rebounds to the Vikings 31. Portland state had 22 turnovers to the Wildcats 16.

Portland State had three players in double figures. Emily Easom and Lauren Holt had 17 each for the Vikings and Lariel Powell had 11. The Vikings shot 40 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three and 60 percent from the free throw line.

The Wildcats are now 3-4 in Big Sky Conference play and 8-10 overall on the season. Weber State will now play Sacramento State in The Nest in Sacramento, Calif., Saturday at 3 p.m. MST. Next week the Wildcats will be back at the Dee Events Center where they will host North Dakota Thursday, Jan. 29 and Northern Colorado Saturday, Jan. 31.
