Sac State defeats Weber State 108-65

A hot start wasn't enough for the Weber State University's women's basketball team as they fell to Sacramento State Saturday afternoon 108-65.
The Wildcats had a hot start jumping out to an early 11-7 lead. The two teams stayed within two points of each other until the Hornets went on a 14-3 run increasing their lead by 12 with 9:58 to go in the first half. Weber State trailed 53-35 going into halftime. Sac State did not lose any momentum in the second half and led by as much as 45 points. Weber State couldn't catch up and fell 108-65.
Junior Jalen Carpenter led the Wildcats with her sixth double double of the season having 14 points and 12 rebounds. Regina Okoye added 11 points for the Wildcats. Kailie Quinn and Brianna Averette had eight points each.
Weber State shot 33.8 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from the three and 61.5 percent from the free throw line. Both teams pulled down 48 rebounds. The Hornets had 12 turnovers to the Wildcats 27. Sac State scored 37 points from turnovers.
Sac State had five players in double figures. Gretchen Harragan led the Hornets with 21 points. Andrea Chenier had a double double against the Wildcats with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Fantasia Hillard also had 15 points for the Hornets. Brianna Burgos had 12 points and Takara Burse had 11. Sac State shot 51.2 percent from the field, 26.9 percent from the three and 61.3 percent from free throw line.
The Wildcats are now 3-5 in Big Sky Conference play and 8-11 overall on the season. Weber State will continue Big Sky play hosting North Dakota Thursday, January 29 and Northern Colorado Saturday, January 31 at the Dee Events Center.
