UND comes from behind, defeats WSU 57-54

OGDEN, Utah – University of North Dakota women's basketball came from behind and defeated Weber State University's women's basketball team 57-54 Thursday night.
The Wildcats commanded the first half of play against UND leading 31-23 at half time. UND came out of halftime hot going on a 13-1 run. North Dakota took a nine point lead with 38 seconds left solidifying the 57-54 victory over Weber State.
“My girls never put their head down,” head coach Bethann Ord said. “They just kept battling. We just gave North Dakota too many opportunities that they capitalized on. We let it slip away tonight.”
Junior Jalen Carpenter led the Wildcats with 14 points and eight rebounds. Brianna Averette had 11 points and four assists, while freshman Kailie Quinn added eight points for the Wildcats.
Weber State shot 35.5 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three and 85.7 percent from the free throw line. They held UND's leading scorer Mia Lloyd who averages 16 points a game to four points. Weber State was outrebounded 33-30. UND had 26 turnovers to Weber State's 22.
UND had two players in double figures, Leah Szabla and Makailah Dyer each had 13 points. North Dakota shot 41.5 percent from the field, 14.3 percent from the three and 75.9 percent from the free throw line.
“We need to play 40 minutes of Weber State basketball,” Ord said. “We need to play smart, play together, and take care of our effort and attitude. We have to continue to believe in ourselves and tighten up our game.”
The Wildcats are now 3-6 in Big Sky Conference and 8-12 overall on the season. Weber State will continue Big Sky play hosting Northern Colorado Saturday, January 31 and Idaho State Saturday, February 7 at the Dee Events Center.
