Wildcats defeat Bethesda 86-60 in season opener

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State women's basketball started the 2015-16 season off with a 86-60 victory over the Bethesda Flames. WSU had five Wildcats scoring in double figures.
In the first quarter of play Weber State started the game on a 6-0 run. They increased their lead by nine points taking the score 17-8 before ending the first quarter with a 26-12. Deeshyra Thomas led the Wildcats in the first quarter with seven points.
Weber State continued to push in the second quarter. Bethesda decreased the Wildcats lead to 10 points which was the closest the Flames got to the Wildcats the entire quarter. The first half ended with a jumper by Thomas bringing the half time to 42-29.
Bethesda outscored WSU in the second quarter 17-16. Weber State was 17-31 from the field in the first half for a 54.8 percentage.
The Wildcats didn't score until two minutes into the third quarter when Thomas made a steal and dished it to Regina Okoye for an easy layup. Once the Wildcats started they went on 8-0 run. Bethesda's first point in the third quarter came with four minutes on the clock when Briah Nelson knocked down a three pointer. Weber State ended the third quarter with a 56-42 lead.
Freshman Tyschal Blake started the fourth quarter off with back-to-back power layups. Weber State took that momentum and carried it to the 86-60 victory.
Weber State was led by freshman Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman who had 13 points. Okoye had a double double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Kailie Quinn and Thomas each had 11 points and Blake ended with 10.
Weber State is now 1-0 on the season. They will travel to Denver University on Sunday, Nov. 15 before returning home Wednesday, Nov. 18 to play the College of Charleston.
