OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State women's basketball team picked up its first loss to Charleston with a final score of 50-42.

“Our flow tonight was not what it has been,” head coach Bethann Ord said. “Charleston is a really good team and disrupted the execution of our game plan. We had way too many turnovers and we have to cut those back. They came in here and played really well and we just couldn't knock shots down.”

In the first quarter Weber State had a five minute scoring drought while Charleston went on a 6-0 run. An over-under move by Regina Okoye led to an easy layup ending the drought but it wasn't enough and the Cougars had a 14-7 lead over the Wildcats at the end of the first quarter.

Weber State fought back in the second quarter bringing the score to 20-19 at half time. Weber State took the lead for the first time in the game two minutes into the third quarter with a score of 22-21. Charleston answered with an 11-5 run.

The Wildcats tied the score with 1:24 left in the fourth quarter at 34-34. The quarter ended with a pair of free throws from the Cougars and one by Dionne Coe for a 36-35 score.

Both teams started the fourth quarter with a 2:53 scoring drought. Charleston broke it first with a jumper by Kelsey Booth. Weber State remained scoreless until Kailie Quinn drained a three pointer with 6:27 left on the clock. The Wildcats were still trailing by two points for a 40-38 score.

Charleston advanced the lead to 44-38. Quinn sunk her fourth three pointer of the game to bring the score within three points with 2:10 left on the clock. The Cougars finished the game with a 6-1 run to claim the 50-42 victory over the Wildcats.

Weber State was led by Quinn who had 13 points including four from beyond the arc. Brittney Dunbar stepped up with five assists on the night and freshman Tyschal Blake led the Wildcats with nine rebounds. There were three different Wildcats with two steals including Quinn, Dunbar and Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman.

Weber State shot only 26.3 percent from the fied, 24 percent from beyond the arc and 50 from the free throw line while Charleston shot 35 from the field and 80 from the free throw line. Charleston went 0-5 from beyond the arc. Weber State only had the lead for 2:21 seconds of that game.

“We didn't come into this game as focused as we usually do,” Quinn said. “This loss isn't sitting well with us so it just makes us hungry for the next game. Tonight was frustrating but we're going to come in ready to win next game.”

Charleston had three players in double figures. Breanna Bolden led with 12 points while Darian Huff and Courtney Gardner each added 10.

Weber State is now 2-1 on the season. They hit the road to take on CS Fullerton Sunday afternoon before taking on Portland Nov. 27. The Wildcats will return home on Dec. 10 to take on in-state rival BYU.
