Halvor Hagen starred on the gridiron for Weber State in 1968 and 1969. Born in Oslo, Norway, Hagen's family moved to the United States when Halvor was nine. He prepped at Ballard High School in Seattle, Washington, then went on to play football at nearby Shoreline (Wash.) Community College.
Under the tutelage of Weber State Coach Sark Arslanian, Hagen soon became a star on the defensive line. He was recognized by his teammates and coaches as the Defensive Lineman of the Year and was awarded the Outstanding Football Player Award in 1969.
During his senior season, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Hagen averaged 10 unassisted tackles as well as seven assisted tackles per game. The Wildcats led the Big Sky Conference in 1969 in rushing defense, allowing only 110 yards per game. For his efforts, Hagen was selected to the All-Big Sky First Team on defense, and was named to the Associated Press All-America squad as an honorable mention. He was invited to play in the Coaches All-American Game.
Hagen was drafted into the National Football League in 1969 as the third-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys. While in the NFL, Halvor played with the Cowboys, New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills. He retired in 1977 after playing eight seasons in the league after knee surgeries forced his retirement.
Hagen was a member of the Cowboys' Super Bowl-winning team in 1969. During his pro career he switched from defensive line to offensive guard.
After a successful career as a CPA for Price Waterhouse, Hagen worked as a controller for a real estate company. He also served as CFO and contracts manager for New England Insulation, New England Distributions and AF Underhill.
In addition to his career, Hagen serves as CFO for the Brockton Coalition for the Homeless, a post he has held since 1995. The Coalition provides emergency shelter and housing for more than 100 individuals and 60 families on a daily basis.
Hagen married Sandra A. Trappey from New Orleans, Louisiana, who he met in Dallas. They have two sons: Halvor Jr. and Gerrit. He continues to stay involved in athletics, participating in hockey, skiing and golf.
