Mike Malaska

Men's Golf (1972-75)

Inducted February 1999

Mike Malaska's golf career blossomed at Weber State University, a career that continues to this day.

Malaska came to Weber State and soon achieved NCAA All-America status. Malaska earned All-Big Sky Conference First Team honors in 1973, '74 and '75. He was a key member of three Big Sky championship teams (1973-75) and was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams (1973, 1975).

Malaska represented the Wildcats as an individual qualifier in the 1974 NCAA tournament, earning All-America honors that season. A three-year letterman, Malaska won several individual tournament titles for the 'Cats.

Malaska was nearly unbeatable in 1974, winning the Utah Open as an amateur, the first amateur to do so in 25 years. Malaska also won the 1974 Utah Junior Open title, and won the Patio Springs Invitational by a single shot over PGA professional Mike Reid by a single stroke.

Malaska stayed in the golf business, and is considered one of the top teaching professionals in the world. His first instruction book, “I Feel Your Pain,” drew rave reviews.
