Shauna Turner Watson

Women's Track and Field (1987-90)

  From 1987 to 1991, Shauna Turner Watson was the dominant force in the shot put in the Big Sky Conference. Watson placed first five times and was second twice in eight conference championships that she competed in. She continues to hold the Big Sky indoor shot put record at 49-feet, 2½-inches.

 Watson also held the WSU outdoor shot put 50-0½) and discus records at the time of her graduation.

  Watson is on the Big Sky all-time top 10 finishers list in the women's shot put. She scored 38 out of a possible 40 points during her career in the Big Sky indoor championships. She competed in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on two occasions.

   Watson earned seven All-Big Sky Conference awards in the shot put as well as two in the discus, and continues to be the only athlete to win the BSC shot put crown three years in a row.

  Watson is the proud mother of Jamila Watson. She works as a juvenile probation officer in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she is charged with helping to reform very delinquent youth offenders. She serves as a volunteer coach for teens, teaching both shot put and discus. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, writing and exercising,
