John Webb

John Webb, a former standout wrestler at Weber State, coached the Wildcats to Big Sky Conference Championships in 1980-81 and 1982-83, producing three NCAA All-Americans in the process.
Webb came to Weber State from Green River, Wyoming. He wrestled one season at the University of Wyoming, then left for an LDS Church mission in England,
He starred for the Wildcats for three seasons. He earned a trio of varsity letters, and was the Big Sky Conference champion at 126 pounds in 1973 and 1974, finishing second at 134 pounds in 1975.
After an impressive coaching stint at Weber High School, Webb took over the WSU coaching position in 1979. Through the seasons, Webb coached 21 wrestlers to Big Sky championships. Three wrestlers (Gary “Tiny” Scrivens, 1983; Dave Lundskog, 1984; and Ryan Western, 1985) eached placed eighth at the NCAA Tournament.
Webb later worked as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State University, helping the Cowboys win the 1989 NCAA Championship. He finished his coaching career as an assistant coach at BYU.
Webb and his wife Jan live in Spanish Fork, Utah. They have seven children. He has continued to work with Utah youth wresting programs, and in 2007, was inducted into the Utah Amateur Wrestling Foundation Hall of Fame.
