During his four-year career, Kurt Black was named All-Big Sky Conference eight times in outdoor track and field, and four times in indoor track. He captured the Big Sky Conference 3,000-meter steeplechase title in 1990, 1992 and 1993. In 1992, he earned NCAA All-America honors by finishing fourth in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. His performance qualified him for the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team Trials as well.
During his senior year, Black again earned NCAA All-America honors with a third-place finish in the steeplechase, as well in the 5,000 meters.
At one point in his career, Black held the Weber State University career scoring record with 70 points. His persona best of 8:23.54 in the 3,000 steeplechase is the second best mark in school and Big Sky Conference history. He also owns the WSU indoor 5,000 meters record in 14:11.86.
Black, a native of Blanding, Utah, also excelled in cross country, earning three All-Big Sky Conference honors. He was a member of the 1991 Weber State squad which placed fourth at the NCAA Men's Championships. That team holds the distinction of having the highest finish of any WSU team, in any sport, in NCAA Division I competition.
Black and his wife, Tami, are the parents of sons Jackson and Colin. He is director of retail marketing for Franklin Covey, and is a partner in Stride Racing, an event management company.
