Football (1965-66)
Inducted October 2011
Tim Jones starred at quarterback for the Wildcats in the 1960s, shortly after Weber State became a four-year NCAA institution and joined the Big Sky Conference. Jones, a native of Oregon City, Oregon, earned Associated Press First Team and All-Big Sky Conference First Team honors following the 1965 and 1966 seasons.
Coming from Grays Harbor (Washington) Junior College to play for Coach Sark Arslanian, did not disappoint fans with his passing and scrambling abilities.
Jones, a 6-foot-2 and 195-pound lefty, righty, led the nation in total offense with over 400 yards per game in 1965, leading Weber State to an 8-1 overall record and a national team ranking as high as No. 5 during the season. Jones led the Big Sky in passing and total offense again in 1965-66, as the 'Cats finished with a 6-3 overall record.
Following his two-year career at WSU, Jones became just the third Wildcat ever to be drafted into the NFL when he was selected by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 1967 NFL draft.
Coach Arslanian called Jones the best Weber State quarterback he ever worked with.
