Weber State's 1959 NJCAA National Championship Basketball Team

Inducted February 2012

   Weber State's men's basketball program is well-chronicled, making waves on the national scene and in NCAA Tournaments through the years.

   One of Weber's first big splashes came in 1959, when the Wildcats won the National Junior College National Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas,

   The 1959 Weber Junior College squad was coached by Bruce Larson, and captained by senior Allen Holmes. The Wildcats have finished as runner-up at the 1958 NJCAA National Tournament by posting a 34-4 overall record in 1959.

  In the championship game, Weber defeated Bethany-Lutheran in Hutchinson, winning 57-47 to hoist the title trophy.

   Team members included: Loren Glenn Burton, Joe Carter, Edward Chatlin Jr., Richard Connolly, Gary Gardner, Lynn Hadfield, Allen Holmes, Gene Kunz, Gordon Millerberg, and Hal Weathers, and Bart Mifflin (team manager).
