Inducted February 2013

The 1981-82 Weber State women's golf team made history by becoming the first Weber State team to win a national championship since Weber State became a four-year institution.

The team was coached by Mike Farrell who was in his third season with the Wildcats. Farrell was a native of Ogden and had attended Weber College. He also ran Golf City and was a PGA Professional teaching golf for more than 15 years.

The championship team consisted of Kerri Clark, Julie Kelly, Denise Sontag, Lori Vegwert, Elisabet Wahlquist and Heidi Wallin.

The Wildcats captured the AIAW Division II National Championships held May 25-28, 1982 at the Eisenhower Golf Course in Colorado Springs, Colo., hosted by the Air Force Academy. It was Weber State's first national championship in any sport as a four-year school.

Weber State posted a four-round total of 1,260 to defeat Troy State by 15 shots. Heidi Wallin took individual national honors by finishing first place overall. She had rounds of 76, 77, 74 and 79 to claim first place by four shots. Wallin, a graduate of Weber High School, was also the Utah State Amateur Champion and was a six-time Utah State Junior Champion.

The Wildcats had three athletes in the top five and four in the top eight of the individual standings. Kerri Clark was fourth at 314 with Lori Vegwert fifth. Wallin, Clark and Vegwert all earned All-American honors. Clark had the best finish of any Wildcat in each tournament that spring leading up to the national championships. She had an average score of 78.3 per round throughout the spring schedule.

Julie Kelly finished eighth overall at the national tournament with Elisabet Wahlquist 17th and Denise Sontag 36th.
