Women's Basketball (2001-2005)

Inducted February 2013

Julie Gjertsen is one of the best women's basketball players in Weber State and Big Sky history. She was a standout player for the Wildcat squad from 2001-05 and led Weber State to two Big Sky titles and earned two conference Most Valuable Player awards.

The Arvada, Colorado, native ranks third in school history and seventh in Big Sky history in career scoring with 1,752 points. She also ranks second in school history in three-point field goals, fourth in scoring average, seventh in field goals and 10th in rebounding.

Gjertsen made an immediate impact at Weber State as a true freshman in the 2001-02 season. In the very first game of her career she scored 27 points and dished out nine assists. That season Weber State posted a 22-9 record and captured its first ever Big Sky title and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Gjertsen started all 31 games that season as a freshman and averaged 10.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Gjertsen came back even stronger as a sophomore in 2002-03. Under the direction of head coach Carla Taylor the Wildcats finished 21-9 and repeated as Big Sky champions and once again earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Gjertsen was named Big Sky MVP that season after starting all 30 games and averaging 16.3 points and making 64 three-pointers.

As a junior in 2003-04 Gjertsen averaged 17.1 points and 6.0 rebounds a game and once again earned First Team All-Big Sky honors. She led the Wildcats in scoring in 24 of the 28 games during the season.

Her senior year of 2004-05 Gjertsen was once again named Big Sky Most Valuable Player and led the Wildcats to a 21-8 record by scoring 16 points a game. Weber State finished second in the Big Sky and advanced to the finals of the Big Sky Tournament for the third time in four years. Gjertsen scored in double figures in all but two games as a senior. She also earned Honorable Mention All-American honors as a senior and earned Academic All-District honors twice in her career.

In 2014, Gjertsen-Meurer was named the 13th greatest athlete In the Big Sky Conference's 25-year history of women's sports.

“Oh wow. I am extremely appreciative of the conference's confidence in my ability, and everything that was contributed while I was there for those four years,” Gjertsen-Meurer told the Big Sky Conference. “Honestly, it was the best time of my life.”

Gjertsen has spent the past 10 years in Golden, Colorado, with her family. She is manager at Panorama Orthopedics and Spine Center
