Bruce Collins, the most prolific scorer in Weber State basketball annals, was part of the Wildcats program that achieved national prominence in the late 1970s.
A native of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Collins left the Weber State program as the all-time leading scorer in Big Sky Conference and Weber State history with 2,019 points. A silky smooth 6-foot-5 guard, Collins was also the eighth-leading rebounder in the Big Sky, third overall at Weber State, with 879 boards.
Known as “Hi-C,” Collins was a three-time All-Big Sky Conference first-team selection, and was named Most Valuable Player of the Big Sky postseason tournament three times as well. During that stretch, 1978-80, Weber State won three Big Sky championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Collins was drafted in the second round of the 1980 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He played several season of basketball overseas, in Beijing, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
After retirement, Collins returned to work in Rock Springs at a local recreation center. He is also a member of the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame, inducted in 2012.
In 2014, Collins was named the 44th greatest athlete in Big Sky Conference history.
