Football (1978-82)

Inducted March 1993

A local prep product, Danny Rich enjoyed a stellar college career at Weber State, and went on to play professionally as well.

Rich, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound insider linebacker, came to Weber State from nearby Bonneville High School, where he was a standout football and baseball player. A team captain, Rich earned First Team All-Big Sky Conference honors in 1980 and 1981. He was named to the Big Sky Conference Silver Anniversary Team, established in 1988.

Rich was recruited by Coach Pete Riehlman, and followed in the linebacking footsteps of Wildcats Otto Ribary and Mike Humiston. Rich enjoyed a breakout season under Riehlman, followed by a stellar senior season under Coach Mike Price.

In 1980, Rich finished with 161 tackles, a pass interception, to fumble recoveries and nine tackles for loss.

Rich held the record for most tackles in a single game, an impressive 31 versus Nevada on Sept. 27 during the 1980 season. Rich left WSU as the career tackles leader with 450.

Rich played for three seasons with the Los Angeles Express of the United States Football League. He was one of the USFL league leaders in 1983, topping the Express with 121 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a pair of interceptions.
