Merlon L. Stevenson
Coach, Teacher, Administrator (1921-64)

Long associated with Weber State College, Merlon Stevenson is known as the “Father of Weber State University Athletics.”
Stevenson grew up in Salt Lake City, and starred at Granite High School and the University of Utah in football and track and field.
Stevenson coached football, men's basketball, tennis and track and field from 1921 to 1933. Many of teams enjoyed great success.
Then, Stevenson served as the Dean of Instruction and chairman of the Guidance and Standards Committee at Weber Junior College from 1936 to 1947. He was also the head of the mathematics and engineering departments from 1924 to 1964, serving as a member of the Weber Administrative Council from 1943 to 1964. Stevenson was chairman of the mathematics and physical science division from 1943 to 1964.
