Bruce Larson

Men's Basketball Coach (1957-59)

Inducted February 1991

Perhaps not as well-known as some of the coaching legends to serve at Weber State, Bruce Larson coached the Wildcats during the formative years and achieve impressive results before moving on to other top basketball programs.

Larson began coaching Weber Junior College in 1957, and in two seasons, helped the Wildcats jump onto the national stage in impressive fashion.

During his two seasons, Larson guided Weber to a 57-9 regular-season record, and helped the Wildcats win the ICAC league championship in 1958 and 1959. The Junior 'Cats finished second at the National Junior College Tournament in 1958.

The 1958-59 season will go down as perhaps the greatest in Weber Junior College history, The Wildcats went 34-4 during the season, claiming the ICAC crown with ease. Larson's squad went on to win the NJCAA National Championship in play at Hutchinson, Kansas.

Larson left to become an assistant coach for two seasons and then the head coach at the University of Arizona, where he served from 1961 to 1972.

His overall record as a basketball coach stands at 310-225. Larson worked as a TV analyst for many years covering Arizona basketball and football games. He was inducted into the UA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1972, and the National Junior College Hall of Fame in 1989.
