Kevin Kempin enjoyed an impressive tennis career at Weber State University, and also earned distinction as a student-athlete.
Kempin, a Chicago native who moved to Salt Lake City with his family as a senior in high school, earned several titles in the Big Sky Conference championship tournaments in 1979 and 1980. He was the No. 3 singles titleist in 1979 and the No. 1 doubles champion. In 1980, he won the No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles titles, as the Wildcats won the team championships in both seasons.
Kempin also participated in the 1980 NCAA Indoor Doubles Championship. A two-time team captain for Coach Keith Cox, Kempin was named the WSU/Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athlete in 1980. Kempin also earned the 1980 Weber State Marketing Graduate of the Year award.
Kempin, who won the state No. 1 singles title at Jordan High School in 1976, later joined the professional ATP Tour for a while. He later coached the University of Utah women's and men's tennis teams.
Kempin graduated from the John B. Goddard School of Business and Economics while at WSU. He became president of Head USA, a leading global manufacturer and marketer of sports equipment. He lives in Salt Lake City.
