Weber State University closed out the San Jose State Invitational with a 3-0 loss to the Spartans Saturday morning.

“I think that it's hard to learn to win when winning is an option,” head coach Jeremiah Larsen said. “It's easy to get tense and nervous about playing somebody you know you can beat escpecially when all you've done in the past is fail. That mentality is something we are working through. We have to overcome that before we can progress. We are going to work consistently hard and just keep improving.”

Megan Thompson and Tanisha Langston led the Wildcats with six kills each. Ciera Borho and Amanda Varley each contributed four kills. Thamires Cavalcanti led the team with nine digs and Samantha Staker added five. Taylor Christensen-Kinikni had 20 assists for the Wildcats.

Weber State out blocked San Jose State 4-0. The Spartans had 35 kills and ended the day with a .241 hitting percentage to the Wildcats' 24 kills and .104 hitting percentage.

The Spartans claimed all three sets with scores of 20-25, 18-25 and 20-25.

“We finally got our momentum in the third set but we couldn't catch San Jose State cause they were too far ahead,” Larsen said.

The Wildcats are now 0-3 on the season and will next go to Peoria, Ill to take on Bradley, Manhattan, and UMASS Lowell. The first home game for the Wildcat will be October 1 in Big Sky Conference play against Portland State.
