Weber State falls 3-1 to Miami Ohio

Reno, Nev. – Weber State University's volleyball team fell 3-1 to University of Miami Ohio Saturday afternoon after four tough sets.
"Sometimes when you put together a string of three matches you feel like you've arrived. Our program hasn't arrived yet and we are still in the process of learning who we are and where we're going."
During the first set the Wildcats had a 15-8 lead but the Redhawks went on a 12-5 run to tie the game at 20-20 and continued their momentum to claim the first set 25-22.
The Wildcats jumped out to another lead early in the second set. The Redhawks continued to charge and went on a 9-4 run to tie the set at 16-16. The two teams remained tied until 24-24 when Weber State went on a 3-1 run to win the set 27-25.
The third set weighed in favor of Miami and ended with a final score of 25-11. The Wildcats trailed two sets to one going into the fourth set.
The fourth set fell into the same pattern as the first and second sets. Weber State had an 18-11 lead but as the set came down to the wire Miami fought back to tie the game at 22-22 and charged past the Wildcats to earn a 25-27 victory and claimed the match 3-1.
The Wildcats were led by junior Amanda Varley who had 50 attacks and 18 kills for a .180 percentage. Anne Corrigan stepped up big for the Wildcats and helped maintain momentum by hitting .444 with four kills and nine attacks. Megan Thompson also contributed 10 kills.
Thamires Cavalcanti had the team high of 30 digs. Taylor Christensen-Kinikini had her second double-double of the year with 31 assists and 10 digs. Â
Weber State is now 3-5 on the season and will head to Colorado to take on Air Force, Colorado and George Mason for the last preseason tournament of the year. The Wildcats will start Big Sky Conference play Sept. 23 at Montana and Sept. 26 at Idaho State. The first match of the year at Swenson Gym will be Oct. 1 against Portland State.
