OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball team took down Sacramento State 77-66 Saturday afternoon. Four Wildcats scored in double figures. Deeshyra Thomas with a new career high of 21 points and Regina Okoye with her fourth double double on the year.

"They just believe," Weber State head coach Bethann Ord said. "When you keep winning it makes you feel good. They do the right things, they work their tails off, and great things happen."

Okoye started the game with a three point bucket but the Hornets answered with a 9-0 run. Weber State made back to back three pointers closing in on the scoring gap but Sac State kept pushing the Wildcats and ended the quarter on an 8-0 run for a 30-18 score.

The Wildcats started the second quarter with a 12-0 run and forced the Hornets into a four minute scoring drought. Okoye scored nine consecutive points helping the Wildcats take a 35-33 lead. The first lead for the Wildcats in the game.

During the second quarter the Hornets scored one three-point basket by Gretchen Harrigan and one free throw by Adella Randle-El. Weber State outscored Sac State 24-4 in the second quarter.  

"We didn't come out of the gates fighting like we usually do defensively," Ord said. "Once we got into it, we started getting stops and attacking the basket."

Weber State had a 42-34 lead at half-time. The Hornets started the second half making the first 5-6 shots bringing the score within two points of the Wildcats. Weber State then went on a 9-0 run and the Hornets went on a four minute scoring drought. WSU maintained their lead and had a 59-47 lead at the end of the quarter.

The fourth quarter was a defensive quarter for both teams. Sacramento State outscored the Wildcats 15-10 but it wasn't enough and the Wildcats claimed a 77-66 win.

Weber State was led by Thomas who posted a new career high of 21 points. Kailie Quinn had 17 points and Brittney Dunbar also scored in double figures with 11.

Okoye had her fourth double double on the year with 20 points and 10 rebounds. This is the sixth time Okoye has scored 20 or more points in a game this season.

Thomas and Dunbar shared the game high in assists dishing out five a piece.

The Wildcats shot 49.1 percent from the field, 35 percent from the three and 78 from the free throw line. The Hornets shot 40 percent from the field, 28 percent from the three and 70 percent from the free throw line. The Hornets also scored 20 points below their average of 87 a game.

The Wildcats had 19 turnovers to the Hornets 21.  Sacramento State out rebounded the Wildcats 35-33.

The Wildcats are now 12-4 overall on the season and 4-1 in Big Sky Conference play. This is the third time in school history the Wildcats have had a 12-4 record. The two previous seasons were 1988-89 and 2004-05. WSU will next host Idaho State Jan. 23 at the Dee Events Center.
