OGDEN -- Weber State never trailed and rolled to a 77-50 win over Southern Utah Saturday night at the Dee Events Center. The 'Cats improved to 7-1 in Big Sky play with their ninth-straight home win.
“I really liked our energy and toughness tonight,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “We were more relaxed and it showed tonight. We had played a little tense in the last couple of games so tonight we focused on just playing and having good energy. We took rhythm shots and no one hesitated. We looked more like our team tonight.”
Weber State jumped out to a 26-8 lead halfway through the first half and never looked back. WSU led by 29 at halftime after shooting 47 percent from the field and holding SUU to 25 percent.
The Wildcats extended their lead to as many as 30 points and the Thunderbirds were never closer than 23 points in the second half.
WSU finished the game with nine 3-pointers, shooting 9 of 19 from beyond the arc, while SUU was just 3 of 9. The Wildcats also outrebounded Southern Utah 46-31 and shot 46 percent from the field.
Senior Joel Bolomboy led the way with his 19th double-double, finishing with 12 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in just 27 minutes of play. Ryan Richardson scored a game-high 17 points and knocked down four 3-pointers and freshman Juwan Williams scored 13 points off the bench.
Weber State (15-6 overall) heads back on the road to next week playing at Northern Colorado Thursday and at North Dakota Saturday.
