Wildcats fall to College of Charleston 50-42

'Cats come from behind; defeats Vikings 75-58

PORTLAND, Ore. – Weber State women's team came from a 13 point deficit to claim a 75-58 win over Portland State Saturday afternoon.

"It was a tale of two halves," head coach Bethann Ord said. "PSU was prepared and ready to battle from the tip. At half I challenged our kids to be tougher and that's exactly what they did. I was pleased with their response and we were finally able to settle down and play our game. This was a great win for us."

Going into the second quarter the score was tied 14-14. Portland State went on an 8-0 run late in the second quarter and pushed their lead to 40-29 at half time.

The third quarter the Wildcats made a comeback and held the Vikings to just 10 points. Outscoring PSU 23-10 for a 52-50 lead going into the fourth quarter.

With 7:13 left in the game Weber State pushed their lead to six points, the biggest lead of the game. The Wildcats went on a 9-2 holding Portland State to just four free throws for the last seven minutes of the game. Weber State pushed to the finish for a 75-58 final score.

Weber State was led by Deeshyra Thomas who had 19 points. Kailie Quinn and Brittney Dunbar each had 14 points. Emily Drake also scored in double figures with 13 points. Drake also had the game high of six rebounds. Quinn and Dunbar each had three steals.

Weber State shot 42 percent from the field, 40 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line. Portland State outrebounded Weber State 44-32. The Wildcats had only 15 turnovers to the Vikings 25. PSU shot 36 percent from the field 14 percent from the three and 76 percent from the free throw line.

The Wildcats are now 16-7 overall on the season and 8-4 in Big Sky Conference game. Weber State will finish the 2015-16 season with four out of six games at home. They will take on Southern Utah and Northern Arizona at the Dee Events Center Feb. 18 and Feb. 20.
