Wildcats fall 70-65 to UND despite strong fourth

OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball surged in the fourth quarter, but couldn't finish as the Wildcats fell to North Dakota 70-65 on Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.

After trailing the entire game, the Wildcats went on an 11-0 run to claim a 63-62 lead with 3:17 left to go in the game. Despite the Wildcats' surge, North Dakota went on a 7-0 run to push them to a 69-63 lead with just 12 seconds left.

Weber State and North Dakota managed to fit in a couple more points in the final seconds of the game but the Fighting Hawks came out on top. 

Kailie Quinn was the top scorer for the Wildcats on the night with 16 points. Quinn also added the game high of three steals. Emily Drake scored in double figures for the 15th time this season with 11 points.

 Zharia Hale had nine rebounds for the game high while Drake and Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman put up four assists each.

WSU shot 32.8 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from beyond the arc and 84 percent from the free throw line. WSU managed to pull down 34 rebounds and put up 11 assists and 12 steals with 16 turnovers.

North Dakota shot 43.6 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three and 70.8 percent from the free throw line. The Fighting Hawks pulled down 46 boards and had 15 assists, five steals and 19 turnovers.

The Wildcats now fall to 8-9 overall on the season and drop to 2-4 in Big Sky Conference play. Weber State will host Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. before hitting the road to take on the Bengals of Idaho State.
