Wildcats drop first game in Bahamas Showcase

Despite career-highs from two players, Weber State dropped its first game of the season as the Wildcats fell 80-72 to Iona Friday night in the first round of the Island of the Bahamas Showcase in Nassau, Bahamas.
Jerrick Harding and Ryan Richardson both had career-highs but the Wildcats committed 18 turnovers which Iona turned into 27 points. Iona shot 50 percent from the field and the Wildcats did not get any points off the bench.
Weber State led by three early on before a 12-2 Iona run gave the Gaels a lead they would never relinquish. The 'Cats trailed by two points midway through the first half before Iona went on a 13-3 run and eventually led by 10 at halftime.
The Wildcats scored the first nine points of the second half to cut the lead to one but could not get closer. WSU trailed 49-48 with 14:09 to play, when Iona went on an 18-2 run over the next five minutes to seal the win.
Harding finished with a career-high 31 points on 13-of-23 shooting with three 3-pointers. He also added five rebounds and four assists. Richardson also had a career-high with 27 points and knocked down five 3-pointers and dished out four assists.
Zach Braxton had six points and eight rebounds, Michal Kozak added four points and a team-high 10 rebounds and Brekkott Chapman had four points. No other Wildcats scored off the bench.
The Wildcats will take on James Madison in the second game of the tournament Saturday at noon MT. The game will air on 1430 KLO radio and can be seen online for a fee at Flohoops.com. WSU will face either Bradley or UTSA in the third game on Sunday.
