OGDEN - The Weber State volleyball team picked up a solid four set win over Utah Valley Wednesday night with scores of 26-24, 25-20, 14-25 and 25-23.
"Utah Valley is a nice volleyball team. We should be proud of our effort and the outcome. We passed exceptionally better than we did yesterday and that's the thing that makes the wheels go round of us. IF we can pass our setters do a nice job and then our hitters can get kills."
The Wildcats started the first set hot getting an early 13-9 lead over the Wolverines. Utah Valley came back though tying the score at 20-20.
The two teams remained even in score until Megan Gneiting came up with not one but two big time kills to drive in the WSU first game victory with a score of 26-24.
Weber State and Utah Valley started out the second set all tied up at 9-9. That was the closest the Wildcats stayed the Wolverines as WSU went on to take a commanding 20-14 lead. UVU wasn't backing down though and pushed back at the Wildcats going on a 6-3 run to cut the Wildcats lead to 23-20 going into the final plays of the second game.
Gneiting knows how to finish off a set as she ended the second with another big kill immediately followed by a block with the help of Hannah Hill-DeYoung to give Weber State the 25-20 win. WSU had the 2-0 lead going into the break.
The break killed Weber State's momentum going into the third set as Utah Valley jumped out to an early 13-9 lead and pushed forward for a 16-10 lead. The Wolverines never let up in the third set and Weber State couldn't claw they're way back as UVU claimed the third set 25-14.
Utah Valley got a 12-9 lead over Weber State early in the fourth set, but the Wildcats came up with a 7-1 run to take a 18-15 lead. The first Wildcat lead of the set. Things got all tied up again with the score at 22-22. Aubrey Saunders had back to back kills to put the Wildcats ahead at set point but UVU managed a kill before a Wolverine error gave Weber State the 25-23 win and the overall match victory 3-1.
Weber State had four Wildcats in double digit kills for the first time this season and was led by Amanda Varley who posted 14 kills from 40 attacks with eight errors. Saunders set a new career high with her 13 kills from 23 attacks and only one error for the match high percentage of .522. Gnieting had 12 kills  from 35 attacks while Andrea Hale evened things out with 10 klls.
