Wildcats roll to 123-53 win in home opener

OGDEN - Weber State scored a dunk just four seconds after the opening tip and it was all Wildcats after that. WSU rolled to a 123-53 win over Bethesda Friday night at the Dee Events Center in the home opener of the 2018-19 season.
The 70-point win is the second largest margin of victory in school history and the 123 points is the third most points ever in a game.
Weber State never trailed and led by as many as 44 points in the first half and held a 63-22 lead at halftime after shooting 62 percent from the field and knocking down eight 3-pointers.
Bethesda was never closer than 39 points the rest of the way.
The Wildcats finished the game shooting 56 percent from the field. The 'Cats also knocked down 13 3-pointers and had 27 assists. They outrebounded the Flames 53-32 and shot 24 of 28 from the free throw line.
The Wildcats finished with seven players in double figures and 12 of the 13 players that played scored points.
Cody John led the Wildcats for the second-straight game, as he finished with 17 points to go along with four assists. Senior Brekkott Chapman added 15 points, four rebounds and three assists in 16 minutes of play and freshman guard Israel Barnes also had 15 points and four assists.
Ricky Nelson scored 14 points and dished out a team-high five assists and freshman Caleb Nero had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Dima Zdor also had 14 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in 14 minutes of action.
Weber State was without All-Big Sky guard Jerrick Harding who missed his second game with an ankle injury.
The Wildcats now head to the Bahamas to play three games in the Junkanoo Jam in Bimini, Bahamas. WSU will take on San Jose State on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. MT. The 'Cats will also play Cal State Bakersfield and Central Michigan in the tournament.
