OGDEN – Weber State football has announced a home-and-home series with Northern Iowa for the 2019 and 2020 season.
The Wildcats and Panthers will meet in Ogden on Sept. 28, 2019. The two teams will play in Cedar Falls on Sept. 19, 2020.
With the announcement of this series, the 2019 schedule is complete for Weber State. The Wildcats will open the season at San Diego State before hosting Cal Poly on Sept. 7 in a non-conference game. WSU will play at Nevada on Sept. 14, before hosting Northern Iowa on Sept. 28. The schedule gives the Wildcats six home games in a season for the first time since 2008, and six home games against Division I teams for the first time since 2006. WSU will host Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, North Dakota and Idaho State in Big Sky games in 2019.
"This will be as competitive a home schedule that we have put together in my time as athletic director," said Weber State director of athletics Jerry Bovee. "We feel our program is in position to play a quality schedule like this, and it will be great for our fans to have six home games at Stewart Stadium. Northern Iowa is one of the top teams from a great football conference and will be a terrific team to play in a series."
Northern Iowa is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Panthers have made the FCS Playoffs in three of the last four seasons.
"We want to continue to build our program to be one of the best in FCS football and it's important to play quality opponents like Northern Iowa," said Weber State head coach Jay Hill. "We are very excited about this home and home series against a really good program."
Weber State and Northern Iowa have met three times with the last meeting coming in 1991 in the first round of the Division I-AA Playoffs in Cedar Falls. UNI's only game in Ogden was in September 1978.
