Taron Johnson drafted by Buffalo Bills

Weber State senior cornerback Taron Johnson was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Johnson was the 121st overall selection and was the only player from the Big Sky Conference drafted in this year's draft.
He became the first Wildcat drafted since Tim Toone in 2010. He is also the highest WSU selection since Paul McQuistan was taken in the third round in 2006.

He started in 12 games at cornerback for the Wildcats in 2017 and finished Had three interceptions, nine pass breakups and 49 tackles on the season with three tackles for loss and two sacks.
In his four seasons at Weber State, Johnson played in 47 career games and finished his career as the school's all-time leader in pass breakups with 42. He also had six career interceptions and 172 career tackles.
He also competed in the Reece's Senior Bowl and the NFL Draft Combine this year.

A couple of Wildcats also signed as free agents after the draft. Tight end Andrew Vollert signed with the Arizona Cardinals and defensive tackle McKay Murphy signed with the Los Angeles Rams.Â

Johnson, a native of Sacramento, California, was the Big Sky Defensive MVP and was a consensus first-team All-American as a senior in 2017, helping Weber State to a record-setting season that included a Big Sky title, a school-record 1 wins, two wins in the FCS Playoffs and a fifth-place national ranking, the highest in school history. Johnson is the 38th player from Weber State drafted in the NFL. He is one of 10 players in WSU history taken in the fourth round or higher.
