CEDAR CITY, UT - The curtain came down on the Wildcats' 2019 season on Sunday afternoon with a 0-0 draw against Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah.
Weber State fought hard throughout the entire match controlling most of the possession and shooting the ball 24 times to Southern Utah's five. Sadie Noble, Mylee Broad, Jasmine Lotey, Lauren McConnell, Olivia Barton, Haley Thomas, Nixie Hernandez and Grace Youngberg all tried to put the Wildcats on the scoreboard, but weren't able to find success. "This game perfectly summarized our season. We are a team who connects passes, can build up and create chances, but we just can't seem to find the back of the net," said Interim Head Coach Meagan Thunell.
The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation, forcing yet another match into overtime. This is the ninth overtime this season for Weber State, and the third in a row. The Wildcats had many opportunities to score in both overtime periods, but weren't able to put one in the back of the net. The game finished at 110 minutes in a scoreless tie.Â
"It's a tough thing to close out a season on a game we felt like we should have won. But these girls are a class act. They are good people, and they have been a joy for me to coach. I certainly share their disappointment in today's result. That was a tough one," said Thunell.
Weber State soccer bids farewell to five seniors, Nikki Pittman, Megan Price Flitton, Mia Hill, Afton Barlow Hamblin, and Madison Carter.Â
The tie wrapped up Weber State's 2019 season at 2-10-5 overall and 1-3-5 in Big Sky Conference play.
