Season ends with 30-14 loss at JMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Weber State's historic season came to an end as the Wildcats fell 30-14 to No. 2 seed James Madison Saturday night at Bridgeforth Stadium in the semifinals of the FCS Playoffs. 
 
The Dukes totaled 467 yards of offense and held the Wildcats to 256 yards. WSU was also 2 of 10 on third down conversions. 
 
JMU got off to a fast start and led 10-0 after the first quarter, then added another touchdown earlier in the second quarter to make it 17-0. 
 
The Wildcats got on the board late in the second quarter when Constantine found Kevin Smith for a two-yard touchdown with 1:23 to play in the half. 
 
But the Dukes drove right back down the field and converted on a 34-yard touchdown pass on fourth and 30 to take a 24-7 lead at halftime. 
 
JMU added a field goal early in the third quarter and another one in the fourth quarter, before a late touchdown from Constantine to Ty MacPherson. 
 
WSU finished with 186 passing yards and just 70 rushing yards. James Madison ran for 212 yards and threw for 255. The Dukes also were 7 of 18 on third downs. It is the 14th-straight win for the Dukes who advance to the FCS Championship against North Dakota State. 
 
Individually, Josh Davis led the Wildcats with 61 rushing yards on 13 carries. Jake Constantine was 16 of 31 passing for 186 yards and two touchdowns. MacPherson had five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. 
 
Defensively, Conner Mortensen led the Wildcats with 13 tackles and Noah Vaea added 12. WSU had five tackles for loss and had sacks from Kamden Garrett and Eddie Heckard. 
 
The loss ends another historic season for the Wildcats who won their third-straight Big Sky and advanced to the FCS Playoffs for the fourth-straight season. The 'Cats finished the season with an 11-4 record, tied for the most wins in a season in WSU history. 
 
The careers end for 11 Wildcat seniors on this year's squad that were part of the winningest class in school history.
