Weber State Track and Field begins indoor season with Winter Open

OGDEN, UT - The Weber State University's men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2019-2020 indoor season this weekend at the Weber State Winter Open.
The Wildcats captured 11 titles in the meet that featured athletes from the University of Utah, Utah Valley University, and Westminster.
The Weber State women's team had eight top individual finishers, and the men's team claimed first in three events. "It was nice to get the season started. We had some great performances for this early in the year," said head men's coach, Corbin Talley. "We have some good work in front of us and we're hungry for more, but there were a number of things we were pleased with."
WOMEN
Track Events
In the 200 meter dash, Weber State finished first, second, and third. Emily Morgan-King finished first with a time of 25.18, Brittany Cardall finished second with a time of 26.15, and Ashlynn Campos finished third with a time of 26.54. Kate Sorensen finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.91, and Aly Tolman finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.72.
In the one mile run, Weber State finished first and second. Isabella Williams crossed the finish line first at 5:04.51, and Liza Sybrowsky finished second coming in at 5:14.04. Kate Sorensen finished first in the 55 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line at 8.03. Weber State "A" (comprised of Brittany Cardall, Emily Morgan-King, Emily Barnes, and Kate Sorensen) came first in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:00.34.
Field Events
Sophie Merritt broke the Weber State record for women's shot put for the first time since 1991, throwing 50-06.00, while Deidre Wilson threw 44-05.50 to earn second place. In the women's weight throw, Sophie Adams finished third at 51-00.00, and Marissa Brunner placed fourth with 49-01.75.
Weber State placed first and second in the women's long jump. Alyisa Shelley jumped 17-09.00 to earn first place, and Talia Reza jumped 17-02.00 to earn second. Paige Dallman earned second in the pole vault with 10-06.00, and Courtney Christopherson finished fourth in the women's high jump with a jump of 5-03.00.
MEN
Track Events
Isaac Tillett came in second in the men's 55 meter dash with a time of 6.53, and Xakai Harry finished third crossing the finish line at 6.54. In the 200 meter dash, Isaac Tillett finished second with a time of 22.59, and Muamer Mujic finished third with a time of 22.91.
Zach Winter finished first in the men's 800 meter run, finishing well before the other runners at 1:59.86; he also earned first in the one mile run, finishing with a time of 4:23.59. Weber State's Cyrus Rindlisbacher earned second place in the men's 55 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line at 7.75. Weber State "A" (comprised of Alex Toone, Cyrus Rindlisbacher, Zach Winter, and Isaac Tillett) earned first place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:25.56.
"On the track, our freshman had some nice opening efforts. Cyrus Rindlisbacher had a strong race in the hurdles, Isaac Tillett looked good in the 55 and 200, and twins Zach Winter and Bronson Winter grabbed a couple of victories in the 800 and 1600," said Talley.
Field Events
Weber State's Brison Tilo earned fourth place in the men's weight throw with a throw of 44-10.75. In the men's long jump, Xakai Harry earned second place with a 22-10.00 jump, and Jakob Pearson earned fifth with a jump of 21-02.75. Trey Deveraux came in second in the men's pole vault with 16-00.75, and Brendan Shelley and Ryan Shearman tied for fifth at 15-01.00. In the high jump, Xakai Harry earned fourth with a jump of 6-02.75, and Jakob Pearson took seventh with a jump of 5-08.75.
"On the field events Friday, we were excited about Trey Deveraux in the pole vault, and Nick Benham and Eli Beard in the shot put, both competing unattached," said Talley.
