Wildcat men's basketball begins practice Friday

It's almost time for basketball. The Weber State men's basketball season will open practice for the 2019-20 season on Friday, Sept. 27.
Returning Wildcats
Weber State returns eight players that saw action last season. The 'Cats are led by senior Jerrick Harding who returns for his final season with the Wildcats. He has earned first-team All-Big Sky honors in each of the last two seasons. Harding also earned All-District honors for the second-straight year. He has played in 97 career games at Weber State and ranks fifth in WSU history in career scoring.
Another senior returning for the Wildcats is Cody John. The Mississauga, Canada native has played in 97 career games with the Wildcats and earned honorable mention All-Big Sky honors last season.
Senior Brenden Morris is also back for his final season at Weber State.
The only returning junior is forward Michal Kozak who is back for his third season with the Wildcats.
WSU has four returning sophomores in Israel Barnes, Donatas Kupsas, Caleb Nero and Dima Zdor, who all played significant minutes for the Wildcats last season.
Returning as a red shirt freshman this season is Tim Fuller who sat out last season as a red shirt.
New Wildcats
Weber State welcomes two transfers and four new freshmen to this year's squad. Khameron Davis has transferred to Weber State from the University of Pittsburgh and after sitting out this season, will have two seasons to play with the Wildcats. Boubacar Diakite is a sophomore who comes to WSU after playing last season at Iowa Western Community College. Joining the Wildcats as freshmen are Austin Galuppo, KJ Cunningham, Judah Jordan and Miitch Brizee.
International Wildcats
Weber State boasts an international roster with players coming from five different countries outside the United States. Boubacar Diakite is from Mali, Cody John from Canada, Michal Kozak from Czech Republic, Donatas Kupsas from Lithuania and Dima Zdor from Ukraine.
A look back
The Wildcats are coming off an 18-15 record during the 2018-19 season and finished in a tie for fourth in Big Sky Conference play with an 11-9 record.
Coaching staff
Weber State head coach Randy Rahe returns for his 14th season as head coach of the Wildcats. He is Weber State's and the Big Sky's Conference's career leader in wins with an overall record of 266-153 (.635). He is also the conference's all-time leader in Big Sky wins with a conference mark of 165-63 (.724).
Rahe has led the Wildcats to five Big Sky Championships as head coach and has guided the 'Cats to the postseason nine times, including three trips to the NCAA Tournament. He has coached six Big Sky Conference MVP's in his time with the Wildcats.
Returning with the Wildcat coaching staff is Associate Head Coach Eric Duft who is in his 14th season at Weber State. David Marek is back for his fourth season as an assistant coach. New to the staff this season is Eric Daniels as an assistant coach and Jorge Ruiz as the Director of Basketball Operations.
Schedule
The Wildcats will host an exhibition game with Western Colorado on Saturday, Nov 2, before opening the season on Nov. 8 at Utah State. It will be the first of four in-state games away from Ogden. The Wildcats will also play at Utah Valley on Dec. 4, play Utah in the Beehive Classic in Salt Lake City on Dec. 14, and play at BYU on Dec. 21.
Weber State will host San Diego on Nov. 14 in the home opener at the Dee Events Center. WSU will also host West Coast Baptist on Nov. 19, Westcliff on Dec. 7 and Bethesda on Dec. 17.
For the fifth straight year, the Wildcats will also play in a preseason tournament. WSU will play three games from Nov. 25-27 at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida. Weber State will open the tournament against Wright State on Nov. 25.
The 20-game Big Sky season will begin on Dec. 28 with a home game against Eastern Washington and will conclude on March 7 at EWU.
The Big Sky Tournament will be held March 11-14 in Boise, Idaho.
New video boards
Several new LED video boards will be installed at the Dee Events Center for this season, including four main video displays in the centerhung that will each measure 10 feet high by 16.5 feet wide.
Wall-mounted along the sides of the arena, four additional courtside video displays will each measure 3 feet high by 13 feet wide and feature 5.9-millimeter line spacing to show supplemental information and sponsorship elements.
