Weber State football head coach Jay Hill has announced the hiring of Robert Conley as a new assistant coach with the Wildcats. Conley will coach the defensive line at Weber State.Â
Â
Conley, a former University of Utah football player and coach, comes to Weber State with more than 10 years of coaching experience.Â
Â
"Robert is one of the great up-and-coming coaches," Hill said. "He was a great player and a leader when he played and has a lot of coaching experience since then. He understands the offensive and defensive line positions very well and knows how to relate to players. I know he will bring a lot of excitement, energy, and passion to our coaching staff."Â
Â
He spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Port Arthur Memorial High School in Texas. He also has several years of coaching experience in college football.Â
Â
He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Midwestern State University, then was a graduate assistant at Utah State in 2011.Â
Â
He spent three seasons on the staff at the University of Utah, serving as a graduate assistant coach. He coached on the offensive side of the ball for two seasons and spent the 2014 season coaching linebackers under defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake.Â
Â
He then spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin where he coached the offensive line and was the recruiting coordinator, and was an offensive analyst for the 2017 season at the University of Houston.Â
Â
"I'm so excited for this opportunity to be a part of this coaching staff," Conley said. "Coach Hill is someone I've always admired and I'm thrilled to be a part of the winning tradition and overall positive culture that has been established at Weber State."
Â
Conley was a four-year starting right guard for the Utah football team from 2005-08, playing in 50 of 51 games, including 42 straight. He earned Mountain West All-Conference honors three times, including first-team honors as a senior in 2008, and was named a Rivals.com third-team All-American. He was also a co-captain as a senior and helped lead Utah to an undefeated season and a Sugar Bowl title over Alabama. Jay Hill was an assistant coach on the Utah staff during Conley's career.Â
Â
Conley graduated from Utah with a bachelor's degree in Economics in 2008 and a master's degree in Sports Management in 2014.Â
Â
He is a native of La Marque, Texas. His wife is Samantha.
