Wildcats sign Dyson Koehler and Alex Tew to join the program for the 2021-22 season.
Weber State head coach Randy Rahe has announced the addition of two players to join the Wildcat program for the 2021-22 season. WSU has added Utah native Dyson Koehler as a Division I transfer and Alex Tew as a high school player from England.Â
"We couldn't be more excited for Dyson and Alex to join our program," Rahe said. "Both are very hard workers and excellent students and will fit our culture really well. They both have very bright futures in our program."
Koehler is a 6-7, 220-pound forward who is a native of Salt Lake City where he attended Jordan High School. He transferred to Weber State from Cal Poly where he played last season and will have four years of eligibility with the Wildcats.Â
During the 2020-21 season at Cal Poly, he saw action in 18 games and started in three games for the Mustangs. He averaged 3.2 points per game and was second on the team in rebounding at 4.2 per game.Â
He was a four-year letterwinner at Jordan High and finished his career setting school records for points (1,721) and rebounds (664). During his senior season, he averaged 19.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game and earned first-team All-State honors for the second time in his career. He helped lead the Beetdiggers to a region title and a runner-up finish at the state tournament in 2019.Â
"Dyson is a very highly skilled player, an excellent 3-point shooter and has a really good feel for the game," Rahe added. "He is a strong, physical player that is college-ready with a tremendous future."Â
Alex Tew is a 6-11, 245-pound center, who comes to Weber State from Chesire, England. He attended prep school last year at Cooper International Academy in Pomona, California.Â
During the season at Cooper, he averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game, along with three assists and three blocked shots per game.Â
"Alex has excellent size, a physical body with great hands and feet, and has a good feel for the game," Rahe said. "He only started playing at age 15 so he is young in the game but has a good skill level and sees the floor very well. He has a terrific upside to how good he can be."
