OGDEN, Utah – Weber State women's basketball returned to the Dee Events Center on Saturday afternoon and fell to the Utah Tech Trailblazers by a score of 69-65.
Following two three pointers from Laura Taylor and an additional six points from Daryn Hickok, the Wildcats got out to a hot start and had a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Weber State's hot start continued throughout the second quarter, as well. At one point in the second quarter the Blazers took a 22-21 lead, but another Taylor three pointer capped off a nine-point run and Weber State regained a 30-22 advantage over the Blazers. Emma Torbert, who made her first appearance of the season in Saturday's game, finished off the half with a shot from the top of the key and beyond the arc to give WSU a 33-24 lead as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Hickok's great game continued early on in the second half as she started Weber State's scoring with a layup in the second half, but the Blazers went on an extended run to recapture a 39-37 lead going into the fourth quarter.
It was back-and-forth effort in an uber-high scoring fourth quarter. Eight points from Torbert, six from Hickok, and five from Jadyn Matthews spearheaded a 28-point onslaught from the Wildcats in the fourth quarter, but the Blazers were able to keep pace. Despite the Wildcats holding Utah Tech – one of the best shooting teams in the nation – to a paltry 15.4 percent shooting from the outside for the game, the Blazers converted on 25 free throw attempts to help clinch a 69-65 victory.
