Wildcats Open Conference Play, Fall to Northern Colorado

12/29/2022 10:02:00 PM | Women's Basketball

GREELEY, Colo. – In Weber State women's basketball's Big Sky Conference opener, the Wildcats fell to the Northern Colorado Bears by the score of 67-39.

Jadyn Matthews got Weber State on the board with a jumper a little bit over a minute into the game, but it turned out to be a slow offensive quarter for the Wildcats after that. Matthews scored on a layup later in the quarter, but Northern Colorado closed the first with a big lead.

A quartet of free throws kick started the Wildcat scoring in the second quarter and led to a Daryn Hickok layup for the first field goal of the quarter. WSU went into the locker room looking for answers as they had a big deficit against the Bears.

The second half proved to be much more competitive as the WSU offense and defense started to get on the same page. Matthews made a layup six seconds into the half to get the Wildcats rolling. Matthews put up four in the quarter, Hickok tallied five, and an Emri Lovell three pointer were the big moments for the Wildcats in the third quarter.

Another early bucket from Matthews got the scoring rolling for Weber State in the fourth quarter, but despite the teams scoring the same amount in the fourth quarter, WSU was never able to make the sustained run it needed to get back in the game and Northern Colorado pulled away with the victory.
