Wildcats Stumble in Flagstaff

12/31/2022 5:11:00 PM | Women's Basketball

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Weber State women's basketball closed out its opening weekend of Big Sky Conference season with a 82-68 loss to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.

The Wildcat scoring got off to an ideal start with a deep three pointer from Emma Torbert in the first quarter. A Daryn Hickok layup gave the Wildcats a 5-0 lead to start the game. A pair of Torbert free throws capped off the Weber State scoring and gave Torbert her sixth and seventh points of the quarter. Weber State took a 14-13 lead into the second.

Hickok continued her rampant offensive pace by scoring the first four Wildcat points of the quarter with a couple of free throws and a layup. Torbert's hot shooting continued from the outside with another three pointer to give Weber State a 21-20 lead. The Lumberjack offense caught fire and created a 39-31 advantage for the
'Jacks near the end of the half, but a Laura Taylor three pointer just before the buzzer cut the deficit to just five points.

Hickok and Jadyn Matthews combined to score 12 points for Weber State in the third quarter, but the hosts boasted a 10-point lead moving into the final stanza.

With two more Hickok free throws towards the middle of the quarter, the Wildcats cut the lead back to nine points, but the 'Cats weren't able to get closer than that. The Lumberjacks defended their homecourt with a 82-68 win.
